Keeping a Journal

As well as using your journal has a ‘therapist’, who listens without judgment to your thoughts, it is useful for your writing too. With regard to poetry, keeping a journal can help you catalogue striking images and thoughts as they occur to you throughout your day. It is a good idea to get into the habit of consciously looking back and over past entries, you can pick out ideas that resonate for you to start creating.

Your in good company if you keep one, writers like Virginia Woolf, Maya Angelou and Sylvia Path along with hundreds of others have kept diaries or journals which enhanced their creative productivity.

Any free moments can give you a chance to brainstorm and jot down your thoughts in your poetry journal, inexpensive and readily available, you can even have one on your phone!
