Weekend Writing Prompt

Hi hope everyone is having good a weekend, Sammi has set her challenge (see link below), to write a poem or piece of prose in exactly 67 words using the word “Variation”.

Here s mine entitled ‘Infinite Variation’ (I have added some info at the bottom foe anyone who is interested), thanks for stopping by:

The Goldberg Variations, is a composition by Johann Sebastian Bach, first published in 1741, it is named after Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, who may also have been the first performer of the work. The initial theme is presented in a different way, so the listener explores and “re-hears” the theme, in this Theme and Variations form, the possibilities are infinite.

The Goldberg Variation consists of 30 variations on one aria, it lasts over an hour without a break. It’s also one of the biggest challenges available to pianists and harpsichordists. Interestingly, urban legend has it that the variations were written to help cure insomnia – it certainly helps relaxation, especially the first part, you can listen to it here:

I was born and live in rural North Wales (UK) and found poetry again after a lifetime, so grateful I did :)

  1. I nearly went for the Goldberg Variations, when I read Sammi’s prompt… was severely tempted. Glad, I didn’t. They were much, much safer in your hands. I would have gone on a Gould rant… Excellent take on ‘Variation’.
