The Swallows Leave

The third of the micro-seasons in the mini-season of White Dew as presented by Mark in his fantastic blog https://naturalistweekly.com/2022/09/16/micro-season-the-swallows-leave/, is ‘The Swallows Leave’ (Sep 17 – Sep 21). Always a sad time for me when they go and it is also the sign that winter approaches. They leave us because our temperature drops, the trees lose their leaves and many insects hide away. So the swallow would face starvation if they stayed in the UK, so sadly they leave our shores and head south to Africa.

Each week Mark adds haikus that relate to the subject in question and gives us an invitation to write our own haiku or senryu, this week it’s one that references the migration of birds of any description, but I have stuck to the beautiful swallow:

I was born and live in rural North Wales (UK) and found poetry again after a lifetime, so grateful I did :)

  1. Another great haiku that captures the season perfectly! And you added a little bit of foreshadowing for the next micro-season: Hibernating Creatures Close Their Doors! Thanks again for sharing!
