The Powerful Cuckoo

Hi, I am attempting to combine two challenges this week, the first is Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday, to write an Imayo poem (https://wordwool.com/imayo-poem-type/) about any bird, https://wordcraftpoetry.com/2023/07/18/tankatuesday-weekly-poetry-challenge-no-329-7-18-23-specific-form/

And, secondly David’s Wea’ve Written Weekly: https://skepticskaddish.com/category/poetry/poetry-prompt/, where Sylvia Cognac is our POW, who has given us the task of writing a poem of any style and any length on the topic of any type of “Power.”

The painting blow is by Utagawa Toyohiro (1774-1830) 歌川豊広: Beauty Watching a Cuckoo Thanks for looking 💕

I was born and live in rural North Wales (UK) and found poetry again after a lifetime, so grateful I did :)

    1. Hi, glad you like it, I understand that In Japan, the cuckoo is associated with unrequited love, its call representing a desperate longing, and an association as a harbinger of tragedy. ❤️

  1. From the images you chose to the story preface that came through in this lovely imayo–wow! Stellar, AJ. This is wonderful all the way ’round. Thanks for sharing this loveliness in which you conquered two prompts. xoxo
